Who pays the closing costs?
In a real estate transaction, who pays the closing costs? The buyer or the seller?
The answer: Whatever is agreed upon in the contract.
In most cases it is the buyer that pays most of the closing costs. Although the seller will have some fees they have to pay as well.
A few years ago it was pretty common for the buyer to write in their offer a request for the seller to pay all or a portion of the closing costs. However, in today's market, most homes for sale will have multiple offers and the seller will often accept an offer that does not ask for closing costs because that takes away from the bottom line.
